Language school Malta — Eurocentres : Msida – the Maltese way of living!
In Malta you will feel as at home as a fish in water. This is not only thanks to the beautiful climate with 300 days of sunshine; it is also due to the warmth of the Maltese people and the cultural diversity of its towns. Malta is the definition of the Mediterranean way of life, from its romantic sandy beaches to its breathtaking cliffs. But Malta is also one of the best places in the world to learn English. Why is this?
Because, at Eurocentres we know the character of Malta better than anyone – and it is more English than most like to think. The official language of the three Maltese islands is English, because this jewel in the Mediterranean was part of the British Empire for 164 years and is still a member of the Commonwealth to this day. Hence, Malta has a considerable linguistic heritage, from which you cannot fail to benefit. It’s no wonder that the sunny island in the Mediterranean, between Sicily and North Africa, has developed into a real mecca for language stays for those learning English.
Regatta in perfect weather – What to see and how to get there
It is in reality rather unlikely that you will travel to Malta on a sailing boat – but not impossible. That’s proven by the ships rocking in the water in the marina and the various fishing boats you can still find there today. Malta’s international airport in Luqa does, at any rate provide, a comfortable way of getting there. From there, you can get to the Eurocentres Language School in Msida within a few minutes by taxi. Once you have arrived, you will most certainly notice that under the surface of a lively and modern city centre, there still lies the legacy of an old fishing village. Because Msida means exactly that: “Dwelling place of a fisherman”.
In a sea of opportunities of a language stay
You don’t need a net to catch a fish to and to know Malta’s cultural treasure. Its cultural assets and the traces of different peoples from the Mediterranean region are everywhere. These civilisations have been leaving their mark on the island for 6,000 years. Among the oldest is the temple of prehistoric cave dwellers, which still leave many questions unanswered. The colourfully painted fishing boats, called Luzzus, bob quietly in the swells and give Malta’s port its characteristic charm. The same goes for the vintage cars that can be found on the big island. They come from all over the world and for the most part originate from British colonial times. What is very apparent with the vintage cars and in the language is concealed somewhat better in other areas of daily life – and despite this, it is no less present. In addition to a Mediterranean flair, the traces of British influences are omnipresent. Postboxes and telephone boxes, for example, are still very British. A Mediterranean holiday that feels like Italy, but in terms of language brings you forward as though you were standing in Westminster Abbey.
