Accommodation

In Malta, students can choose between staying with a host family or in a halls of residence.

Host families:
There are many types of host families - from families with children to single-person households (in most cases older landladies). All host families are carefully selected and regularly inspected. When placing students, also special dietary, health or religious requirements are taken into consideration. The host families speak English and offer bedrooms for one or more persons on a half-board basis. The bathroom is communal. Dinner is usually taken with the family and offers the best opportunity to converse with members of the host family. Students are encouraged to participate in the daily life of the family, discuss topics of interest or any matters of concern. This will allow students to use their English skills and provide them with unique irreplaceable experiences.

Halls of residence:
The halls of residence are located a 10 minute walk away from the school and provide studios with 1, 2, or 3 beds, cooking facilities including a stove and a microwave and a separate shower-room. A breakfast buffet is provided. A supermarket and numerous, well-priced restaurants are located nearby. Accommodation includes bed linen, towels and all services. The studios are cleaned twice a week.

The reception is only open in the mornings on weekdays. In case of weekend arrivals, keys to the suites are handed out at the airport.

Permission to go out – Evening return times
Host families: Students under 18 years of age should accept that the host family is responsible for the student during his stay and should respect the host family’s suggestions. Students under 18 years of age may not carry a house key and must inform their host families of their whereabouts to prevent being locked out.

The student shall respect the following evening return times of the halls of residence:
During Mid-June to end August, the following return times shall apply:
23.00 hours for students aged 14 to 15 years.
01.00 hours for students aged 16 to 17 years.

The above time schedules should be respected unless where students are participating in activities organized by NSTS.
The reception at the halls of residence is closed at 24.00 hrs. and any under-age students returning later than the specified time will be reported to the secretariat. The school will in turn inform the student’s parents.

Water should only be used sparingly as it is a scarce commodity on Malta.
