In Auckland, students can choose to stay with a New Zealand host family or in accommodation arranged independently of Eurocentres.

Host families: There are many types of host families - from large families with children to single-person households (in most cases older landladies). All host families are carefully selected and regularly inspected. When placing students, also special dietary, health or religious requirements are taken into consideration.
Travel time to school is normally 45 -60 minutes. Dinner is usually taken around 6.30 p.m. and offers the best opportunity to converse with members of the host family. The stay with a host family includes:
Breakfast and dinner (as well as lunch at weekends), electricity, a private bedroom and use of the facilities of the house.

Hotels: The city of Auckland offers many standards of accommodation, from comfortable but basic two-star (approx NZD 95 per night) to four/five-star hotels (approx NZD 120 per night).

Residences: This is a clean apartment complex which has been operating since 2005. It’s located in a quiet street close to Queen Street and all city amenities. Travel time to school is normally 15-20 walking minutes

Apartments: If you will be staying for a longer period in Auckland, you may decide to rent an apartment. Rents vary according to size, condition and location of the apartment. A fully furnished apartment is, however, difficult to find. It is easier to find a room in a shared house.
The following approximate rental charges apply:

1 bedroom NZD 170-250 per week
2 bedroom NZD 250-330 per week
3 bedroom NZD 330-380 per week

Tenants are usually required to pay 2 weeks’ rent in advance plus a deposit. The deposit is generally 2 weeks rent, which is refundable at the end of the tenancy, provided the property has not been damaged. There may also be other fees involved, like approximately NZD 45 for reconnecting an existing telephone line.
