Goethe Institute

  • Available: 4 times a year, 2 weeks, 4 times a year, 20 x 50 minute Basic course in the morning and 5 x 50-minute specialised lessons per week
  • Class size: 0–14
  • Eurocentres levels: 3–9


The exams have a communicative basis and make very good objectives for any learner of German. Materials relevant to the appropriate examinations are used during lessons. The status of the Goethe Institute is similar to the Cambridge Certificate for English or the Alliance Française for French. The suite of Goethe Institute examinations has been revised for 2008 and there arenow four examinations for the levels on the Common European Framework to which Eurocentres has contributed its experiences and ideas. Level:

  • Zertifikat Deutsch (ZD/B1): Tests listening, speaking, reading, writing in a communicative way. (B1 = Eurocentres 4-5)
  • Goethe-Zertifikat (B2): Tests listening, speaking, reading, writing and knowledge.The first serious qualification for employers. (B2 = Eurocentres 6-7)
  • Goethe-Zertifikat (C1): Tests listening, speaking, reading, writing including to deal with challenging topics and texts. Qualification for universities. (C1 = Eurocentres 8-9)
  • Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung (ZOP/C2): Tests listening, speaking, reading, writing in situations related to professional life, qualifaication for german universities. (C2 = Eurocentres 10)
